Stanley P. Salter

Funeral Services for Stanley P. Salter will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. from First Methodist Church with Rev. Tommy Jennings officiating. Interment will follow in Cedarlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at McClain-Hays Chapel and Thursday, December 12, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. until departure at McClain-Hays Chapel.

Stanley was born and raised in Neshoba County to Claude and Jimmie Salter. He served his home county with dignity and respect. Salter's contributions are evident through his 40-year banking career, culminating in his retirement from The Citizens Bank in 2010, his 26 years of service in the Mississippi National Guard, and his ongoing work as chairman of the Industrial Development Authority. Beyond his banking career and military service, Salter has been active in various community roles. He served as president of the Sertoma Club twice, directed the Heart O' Dixie Triathlon/or two years, held every position in the Philadelphia Rotary Club, served as president of the Neshoba County Schools and East Central Community College boards. He was chosen as this year's Philadelphia/ Neshoba County Community Development Partnership Citizen of the Year. He is also well-known/or his passionate support of Mississippi State University athletics, particularly the baseball team. Salter kept detailed scorebooks for every Mississippi State game he attended. He has followed the Mississippi State Bulldogs baseball team to the College World Series in Omaha since 2007, attending every appearance (2007, 2013, 2018, 2019, and 2021). He was a long time member of First Methodist Church where he served as treasurer for 22 years, was a member of the choir and taught the Cornerstone Sunday School Class for over 20 years.


Stanley is survived by wife of 41 years, Kay Wells Salter, son Tate Salter (Andrea) of Philadelphia MS, daughter Whitney Salter Vance of Hattiesburg MS, grandchildren, Tanner Salter, Jon Byars Salter, Tatum Salter, Barron Vance and Porter Vance, sisters-in-laws, Cyndi Weldy (David) and Gina Daly and a host of nieces, nephews and families.


He is preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Jimmie Salter and in laws Kenneth and Willie Jean Wells.


In lieu of flowers the family has requested all memorials be made payable to First Methodist Church of Philadelphia Choir Fund.
