Lester L. Allen Jr.

Services for Lester L. Allen, Jr. will be held Wednesday, October 23, 2019, at 1 p.m. at McClain-Hays Chapel with Rev. Chris Young and Rev. Daryl Johnston officiating.   Burial will follow in West Kemper Baptist Cemetery in Kemper County.  Visitation will be held Wednesday from 11:00 a. m. until time of service.  McClain-Hays Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Allen, 85, of Philadelphia, died Sunday, October 20, 2019, at his home. He was a native of Kemper County and graduated from Cleveland School in Kemper County.  He moved to Jackson, MS, in 1957 where he started his career in the trucking business, retiring from the same business in 1988 from Huntsville, AL.  He moved back to Kemper County in 1988 until 2015 when he moved to Philadelphia.  Mr. Allen was a member of First United Methodist Church in Philadelphia. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Yvonne Allen of Philadelphia; sons, Randy Allen (Cathy) of Huntsville, AL, and Rick Allen (Angela) of Philadelphia; grandchildren, Laura Massey (Drew), Katie Pearson (Payton), Brooke Swann (Christopher), Brittany Boisseau; great-grandchildren, Mary Allen Massey and Andrew Massey; and a host of nieces and nephews. Mr. Allen was preceded in death by parents, Lester Allen, Sr., and Bessie Allen; siblings, Jean McDonald, James Allen and Charles Allen.  Pallbearers are Drew Massey, Payton Pearson, Jeff McWilliams, Jerry McWilliams, Mike Allen and Brian Anderson.  Honorary pallbearers are Robert McDonald, Thomas Allen and Michael Vick.
