Graveside services for William C. “Bill” Mattern will be held Saturday, August 3, 2024 at 10 a.m. from Sandtown Church Cemetery with Bro. Kiah Hitt and Bro. Lawrence Pool officiating. McClain-Hays is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Mattern, 72, of Philadelphia died August 1, 2024 at his home. Bill was born in California and grew up in Long Beach, MS and lived in Hattiesburg for many years on Lake Serene. He attended Long Beach High School and later graduated at USM with a degree in Architectural engineering. He worked as a cabinet maker and owned American Cabinets. He was a homebuilder for several years and later transitioned in to offshore work as a lease operator. Bill loved to hunt, fish, anything outdoors, and was a jack of all trades, and always willing to help anyone in need. He dearly loved his family and will be missed by all of them. Mr. Mattern was a member of Hardy Street Baptist Church early on and later a member of Sandtown Church. Survivors include his wife, Glenda Mattern of Philadelphia and her grandchildren, Morgan Cumberland, Sarah and Jacob Richardson; son, Will Mattern (Alicia) of Hattiesburg and his 2 daughters; sisters, Beth and Gail Mattern of Seattle, Washington. Mr. Mattern was preceded in death by his daughter, Tracy Waldrip; son, Allen Lane Cumberland; granddaughter, Anna Kate Waldrip; son, Jason Lee Richardson; parents, William F. and Marilyn Mattern; brother, Paul Mattern; father and mother in-law, James Arnett and Mary Etta Sisson. Pallbearers, Mike Fulton, Riley Tate, John Williams, Cole Stewart, Cameron Stewart and Chad Gray.
