Graveside service for Wendell Scarbrough will be held Sunday, August 23, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. from Clark’s Chapel Cemetery in Kemper County with Rev. Gary Rivers officiating. McClain-Hays Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Scarbrough, 65, of Preston, died Friday, August 21, 2020. Wendell was a longtime resident of Kemper County. He was a logger, machinist, millwright, carpenter, pilot, and many other occupations. Mr. Scarbrough was Baptist by faith. Survivors include his wife, Martha Scarbrough of Preston, sons, Chris Scarbrough (Donna) of Collinsville; Allen Scarbrough (Nicole)of Philadelphia, and Ethan Scarbrough (Adrienne) of DeKalb; grandchildren, Kristan Scarbrough, Chris Scarbrough, Trey Scarbrough III, Lane Scarbrough, and Peyton Scarbrough; step-grandchild, Mason Miles; sisters, Jackie Dempsey and Kathy Dutton; brothers, Ray, Willis, Jr., and Tim Scarbrough; numerous nieces, nephews, and their families. Mr. Scarbrough was preceded in death by parents, Willis, Sr., and Eloise Scarbrough. Pallbearers are Allen, Ethan, and Chris Scarbrough, John Fortenberry, Ashton Killen, Bobby Cumberland, Shannon Rogers and Richard Dempsey. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to ALS Foundation, or Gideons International.
