Wayne George

Services for Wayne George will be held Saturday, October 3, 2020, at 3:00 p.m. from McClain-Hays Chapel with Rev. Hollis Warren officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday from 2:00 until time of service. Burial will follow in Damascus Baptist Church Cemetery in Kemper County with funeral honors provided by the Mississippi Highway Patrol Honor Guard. McClain-Hays Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. George, 85, died Wednesday, September 30, 2020, at South Central Regional Hospital in Laurel. He was a native of the Hopewell Community in Kemper County. He served in the Mississippi Army National Guard and retired from the Mississippi Highway after 22 years of service. Mr. George was a member of Damascus Baptist Church and attended Midway Baptist Church. He and his wife enjoyed traveling in their motor home after retirement with the Mockingbird Camping Club. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Yvonne George of Meridian; daughter, Pam George Howard (Billy, Jr.) of Laurel; grandchildren, Mary Alice Thornhill (Adam) of England, Leslie Howard of San Diego, CA, and Ellie Howard of Laurel, MS; and great-grandson, Oliver Thornhill of England. Mr. George was preceded in death by his father, Lavelle “Bud” George, mother, Macie George, stepmother, Sarah George; and brother, Wendell George. Pallbearers are Billy Howard, Donny Massey, Dustin George, Cody George, Sam Isom, and Dick Massey.
