Services for Wausie Lane Burkes will be held Friday, June 14, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. from the MS Veterans Home Chapel in Kosciusko with burial in Eastlawn Cemetery in Philadelphia. Visitation will be held Friday from 10:30 until time of service at the MS Veterans Home. McClain-Hays Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Burkes, 87, of Brandon, died Monday, June 10, 2019, at MS State Veterans Home in Kosciusko. A native of Neshoba County, he was a longtime resident of Brandon, and prior in Jackson. He was retired CMSGT of the U. S. Air Force serving during Korea and the Vietnam Era. After serving in the military he worked for Mississippi State Tax Commission. Mr. Burkes was a member of Old Pearl Valley Baptist Church in Neshoba County and was a mason. Survivors include his wife, Sue Burkes of Mandeville, LA; daughter, Alane (Roy) Hudson of Mandeville, LA; grandchildren, Sean (Lauren) Hudson and Allyn Hudson; great-grandchild, McKenzie Hudson; brothers, Wayne Burkes of Brandon and Johnny Burkes of Philadelphia; several nieces, nephews and their families. Mr. Burkes was preceded in death by daughter, Carol Ann Burkes; four brothers; and parents Dewitt and Cleo Burkes. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, or charity of choice.
