Virginia “Ginny” Jones Kilpatrick went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 27, 2025. She was the only child born to Ross and Lavonia Jones on July 4, 1935 in Philadelphia, MS. As a young girl, she always thought the Fourth of July fireworks were a celebration for her birthday.
Virginia married Maurice Kilpatrick in 1956. She was employed in retail while Maurice completed his college education in business administration. She then became a full-time housewife and mother and moved several times with Maurice to various hospital assignments in Mississippi, Alabama, Illinois, West Virginia, and Louisiana.
Virginia loved her church, her friends, and most of all her family. She was a longtime member of Love Sunday School class at First Baptist Church of Vicksburg. She loved traveling with church friends, and she loved the many games of cards she played with them. While living in Philadelphia, Virginia was a member of The Women’s Club, a local service organization, where she was recognized as Woman of the Year. Her laugh and pleasant personality enabled her to have many lifelong friends who will truly miss her. Her devotion to family was unsurpassed. She was always caring, loving, and unpredictable in what she might say. Virginia was her great-grandchildren’s biggest fan. Even after her health prevented her from attending their events, she was always eager to hear a recap or watch a video of everything they did.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Maurice Kilpatrick, and her parents, Ross and Lavonia Jones. She is survived by her daughter, Pam Wilbanks (Rayford) of Vicksburg, one grandson, Jason Wilbanks (Melisa) of Vicksburg, Tracy Morris of Marysville, Ohio, two great-grandchildren, Tristan Wilbanks (Anna Lynn) of Starkville and Elaina Wilbanks, one great-great-grandson, Bowen Ross Wilbanks, caregiver Alice Daniels, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to devoted caregiver, Alice Daniels, Dr. Lee Giffin, Shirley George, Yvonne Mitchell, and the staff of Heritage House Nursing Home. Pall bearers include Michael Kilpatrick, Hugh Thoms, Parker Thoms, Stanley Dowell, Tristan Wilbanks, and Benjamin Wilbanks.
