Vernon Wattles

Graveside services for Mr. Vernon Wattles will be held at 12 noon on Friday, June 16, 2023 from Remus Cemetery with Rev. Eddie Pilgrim officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday from 10:00–11:00 a.m. from McClain-Hays Funeral Home. Mr. Vernon Wattles, 85, of Carthage died on Monday, June 12, 2023. Mr. Wattles was a native of Lake City, FL and a resident of Portage, IN for 30 years. He retired from Teamsters after 24 years. Mr. Wattles has been a resident of Leake County since 1991. He was a member of Arlington Baptist Church. Survivors include his daughters, Angela Darlene Harrell of Carthage, MS, Cynthia Takacs (Steve) of Waxahachie, TX; son, Vernon Gene Wattles (Missy) of Portage, IN; grandchildren, Nicole Elizabeth Trest, Erica Lynn Winters, Julie Ardrey, Nicholas Takacs, Andrea Richart, Austin Wattles and Jordan Wattles; great-grandchildren, Cloee Bryant, Gunnar Bryant, Dawson Trest, Brody Richart, Evelyn Richart, Addison Wattles, Magnolia Richart and Vivian Wattles; sisters, Pat Boozer of Lake City, FL and Voncile Jennings of Houston, TX; and a host of nieces and nephews. Mr. Wattles was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Genoby Wattles; sisters, Betty Hosford and Fern Miller; and brothers, Charles Wattles and Bennett Wattles.
