Services for Sarah Chaney will be held Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at 1 p. m. from McClain-Hays Chapel with Dr. Mike Carr officiating.  Burial will follow in Decatur City Cemetery in Decatur.  Visitation will be held Wednesday from 11 a. m. until time of service at McClain-Hays Funeral Home. McClain-Hays Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.   Sarah Chaney, 88, passed away June 7, 2019, at Goodlife Senior Living And Memory Care in Artesia, New Mexico.  She was born July 23, 1930, in Neshoba County, Mississippi, to Tommy and Inez (Hatcher) Cumberland.  She married James Chaney on July 24, 1948, in Decatur, Mississippi.  She moved from Mississippi to New Mexico in 1957, where she was a housewife, and later worked for Artesia Public Schools as a cafeteria worker.  In 2005 Sarah moved to Philadelphia, Mississippi, where she lived until 2018, when she moved to Artesia, New Mexico, to be near her son, Jerry, and resided there until her death. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Philadelphia, Mississippi. Mrs. Chaney was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughters, Sharon Chaney, Nancy Jones; brothers, Gurvis and Roy Clelon Cumberland; sisters, Mozelle Yarbrough and Tommie Jean Estes. She is survived by sons, Jerry Chaney (Christy) of Artesia, NM; Tommy Chaney (Shanna) of Wichita Falls, TX; brother, Dulane (Linda) Cumberland of Newton, MS; sisters, Dianne Hackett (Ed) and Sue Ely (James) of Philadelphia, MS; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and their families. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Baptist Church, 595 Center Avenue, Philadelphia, MS.
