Roy Glen Roper, 78, born September 23, 1941 to Grady Henry and Johnie Ruth Cheatham Roper, entered the heavenly gates on April 3, 2020. A life-long resident of Philadelphia, Roy was a simple but solidary lover of Christ and a Godly man. He was an avid outdoorsman, who loved to fish and hunt. He also loved to grow a garden of all types of vegetables. Roy enjoyed cutting grass and was very particular in maintaining his yard, in which he was proud of. He had various talents from being a mechanic, to baking, and helping others in his church and community. He spent his Sunday mornings visiting the tenants of the Neshoba General Nursing Home with the Brotherhood before attending services at Trinity Baptist Church. He was always joking around and playing pranks on those he loved. Roy enjoyed making people smile when delivering flowers while volunteering at Uptown Flowers. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Grady Roper, his brother, Thomas Roper, son-in-law, Timothy Thomas, brother-in-law, Jerome Warren and step-father, Wiley Whinery. He is survived by his son, Dr. Gregory Roper of Santa Barbara, California, his beloved daughter and caretaker, Lisa Roper Thomas of Philadelphia, MS, his grandchildren, Abby (Jeff) Hairston, Brody Thomas (Audrey Kendall) and Carly Thomas (Payton Pierce) and his great-grandchildren, Jack and Sam Hairston; his sisters and brother, Dorothy Warren, Louise Thrash, LaHara Pullin (Raymond), and Billy Roper, step-brothers, Marion (Sherry) Whinery and Hilary Whinery and a host of nieces and nephews; his extended family, Scherrie Willis, Allen (Buffy) Willis, Mechelle (Thomas) Maxey, and Eddie Willis and their families.
