Robert Melton Murphy

Funeral Services for Robert Melton Murphy will be held Wednesday, April 30th, 2025, at 2 p.m. from McClain-Hays Chapel with Bro. Dennis Duvall officiating. Interment will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 29th, 2025, from 5 to 7 p.m. at McClain-Hays.

Robert Murphy, a native of Attala County, departed this life on April 26, 2025. Born on September 24, 1950, he graduated Ethel High School, class of 1967. He furthered his education at Mississippi State University, earning his Bachelor of Science degree, followed by a master’s degree from Delta State University. Robert began his career in education as an administrator at Western Line School District in Avon, Mississippi, and later moved to Philadelphia, where he dedicated many years to Neshoba Central High School. In 1995, he assumed the role of director at the Philadelphia/Neshoba County Vocational Center, a position he held until his retirement in 2010. In his personal life, Robert enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including hunting, fishing, and gardening. He also took pleasure in working on his farm with his cattle and caring for his beloved pets. Most importantly, he cherished the time spent with family and friends. 

He is survived by his daughter, Alicia Murphy; his brother, Lane (Gloria) Murphy; and several nieces and nephews. 

Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by his wife, Joan; his parents, Dalton and Pauline Murphy; and his brother, Lamar Murphy and his wife Teresa. Friends and family are invited to come together to honor and remember a remarkable individual who touched the lives of many.

Pallbearers will be David Murphy, Lennie Nitcavic, Matthew Nitcavic, Sam Smith, Jimmy Buchanan, Charlie Eruian, and Sparky Bryan.
