Muriel Driskell Crenshaw was born on August 25, 1915, in Newton County, Mississippi to Thomas Eugene Driskell and Gertrude Lenora Ozborn Driskell. She had two sisters, Allie Onita Driskell Germany (Byrum) and Margaret Frances Driskell Amacker (Dempsey). She also had three brothers, Louis Ozborn Driskell (Katherine), Thomas Cecil Driskell, and Prentice Eugene Driskell. On December 2, 1933, at the age of 18, she married Burnace Edward Crenshaw and they had one son, Selby Allen Crenshaw who was born on May 29, 1935. On March 22, 1958, Selby married Marlyn Yvonne May and their only daughter Connie Amanda Crenshaw was born on July 29, 1961. On May 1, 1991, Connie married Paul Wayne Shoemaker. Selby died on January 30, 2001, and Marlyn died on January 26, 2011. Muriel’s husband, Burnace Edward died on July 12, 1975. She attended New Ireland Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years, until she and her family moved to the Neshoba community in the mid 1970’s. At that time, she began attending Neshoba Baptist Church and has been a member since then. She worked at Hugh Matthews Grocery store in Union, Mississippi for several years until her retirement in her early 60’s. After she retired, she enjoyed sewing and quilting. She always planted a big garden every year and picked and canned all of her vegetables. She has collected salt and pepper shakers all of her adult life and has probably over 200 sets. She has always been called “Hurry Muriel” because she was always in a hurry to get somewhere or to go somewhere. She would always get her housework done on Monday so if someone was going somewhere during the week, she would be ready to go with them! She enjoyed playing the part of “Minnie Pearl” at her church and community talent shows. She has always enjoyed quilting and has done many beautiful quilts over the years. She enjoyed making pies for everyone in the community and was often called “the pie lady”. When asked how she was feeling, she would usually say either, “fat and sassy”, or “up and at it”. She said that the Lord richly blessed her over the years, and she always continued to serve Him. As the words to her favorite hymn go, – “The longer I serve Him, the sweeter He grows. The more that I love Him, more love He bestows. Each day is like heaven, my heart overflows. The longer I serve Him, the sweeter He grows.” Her faith in the Lord has always been very strong and her motto is “JOY” – Jesus First Other’s Second Yourself Third She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers and sisters, her husband Burnace Edward “Bernie” Crenshaw, and her son and daughter in-law, Selby and Marlyn May Crenshaw. She is survived by her granddaughter, Connie Crenshaw Shoemaker (Paul) of Mendenhall, MS; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews as well as great, great nieces ,nephews and cousins. She is also survived by a host of wonderful friends, and her precious church family who have prayed for her, called, visited, brought goodies and gifts, stopped by and picked her up for church services, hosted birthday parties for her, and the list goes on and on. She is also survived by her special friend and “secret pal”, Doris Ashmore.
