Funeral services for Mary Weathers Posey will be held on May 1, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. in the McClain-Hays Chapel with Bro. Randy Caldwell officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until service time on Sunday. Burial will follow at McLain Chapel. Mary Weathers Posey, 93, passed away peacefully in her sleep early on April 13, 2022, in Philadelphia MS. Mary was born in 1928 in House, MS as the youngest of 10 children to John “Cleve” Weathers and Gertrude Hoyt Weathers. She grew up in the Hopewell Community of Kemper County and graduated from Cleveland School. She married at 20 years old. At 25, Mary accompanied her husband, Richard, to a US Army posting in Germany from 1953-55, followed by a return to Georgia and Monroe, Louisiana and ultimately back to Kemper County in 1969. Many people may remember her when she worked at the Western Auto store in Philadelphia in the 1970’s and 80’s. She has resided in Philadelphia at Atwood Personal Care Home since 2016. Mary was very active in the Hopewell Community Quilting Circle throughout the 1970’s, 80’s and 90’s. She was known to be a great cook (especially desserts!) and loved entertaining people at home. She loved a good game of Rook and Dominoes. She was a loving but strict Mother and Grandmother, and she will be greatly missed. She is survived by her 2 daughters: Denise Posey Shepherd of Las Vegas, NV and Doris Posey Guice of West Monroe, LA. Her two beloved grandsons; Jason (Rebecca McQueen) Shepherd of Kangaroo Valley, Australia and David (Amanda) Guice of Pueblo, Colorado and her three great grandchildren; Brooklynn Guice, Callan and Ellery Shepherd and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents John C and Gertrude Weathers, her sister Dessie Neal and eight brothers: Orbus, Millard, Earl, Charles, James, Lester, Titus, Ernest Weathers. Pallbearers are J W Neal, Jeff Shepherd, David Guice, Bob Roberson, Kent George, and Charles Howse.
