Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 4, 2023, at 2:00 p. m. from McClain-Hays Chapel with Rev. Don Parish and Rev. Joshua Drury officiating. Burial will follow in Mars Hill Cemetery in Winston County. Visitation will be held Saturday from 12 noon until time of service at McClain-Hays Funeral Home. Mr. Townsend, 79, of Philadelphia, passed peacefully at his home on Thursday, February 2, 2023. Marvin was born and raised in the Arlington Community of Neshoba County. He was a Sergeant in the U. S. Army and served in Vietnam. Once home from Vietnam he was employed at U. S. Motors where he worked for 34 years. Mr. Townsend was an active member of Mars Hill Baptist Church and served as a deacon for 15 years. Survivors include his wife, Linda Townsend; daughters, Sewanna Watson (J. P.) of Philadelphia, MS and Amy Skelton (Brad) of Pheba, MS; grandchildren, Hannah Tingle (Matthew), Rebekah Adams (Alex), Marshall Skelton, and Sarah Skelton; two great-grandchildren, Beckham and Bennett Tingle; and a host of nieces and nephews. Mr. Townsend was preceded in death by parents, Oscar and Ethel Townsend; sisters, Ettie Mae Fortenberry, and Shirley Brekeen; brothers, Grady and Paul Townsend. Pallbearers are Greg Sisson, Glenn Sisson, Mark Drury, Ted Manning, Warren Deweese, and Jacob Drury.
