Funeral services for Mark Gibson will be held Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. from Big Oak United Methodist Church Family Life Center with burial in Big Oak Cemetery in Kemper County with Rev. Davey Wilkinson, Rev. David Keller, and Rev. Ben Jones officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at McClain-Hays Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 12 noon at Big Oak UMC Family Life Center until time of service. McClain-Hays Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Gibson, 80, of DeKalb, died Sunday, November 7, 2021, at his home. A native of Kemper County, he took a job with Southern Electric Supply and lived 30 years in Greenville, MS, where he raised his family. He moved back to Kemper and retired after 48-and-a half years with the same company. He enjoyed duck hunting on the river; lake days on the pontoon with family; coaching girls’ softball; and most of all enjoyed his woodworking. He loved watching his grands and great-grands play football. Mr. Gibson was an active member of Big Oak United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Lana Gibson of DeKalb; daughters, Gina Colville of Horn Lake and Leah McCollum (Billy) of Hernando; son, Michael Gibson (Leslie) of Philadelphia; grandchildren, Christine Glass (Brian), Megan Gibson Tubby, Kimber Branning (Nick), Dakota Higginbotham (Ty), Lundy Longoria, Vinnie Longoria, Cooper McCollum (Abby), JonMark Gibson (Jordan), Morgan Colville, Riley McCollum, Zack Smith; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Carolyn Griffin of Plantersville; and brother, Jerry Gibson of Madison. Preceding Mr. Gibson in death were daughter, Christy Longoria; parents, James and Viva Gibson; and three siblings. Pallbearers are Vinnie Longoria, Cooper McCollum, JonMark Gibson, Zack Smith, Nick Branning, Brandon Burton, Brian Glass, and Ty Higginbotham. Memorials may be made to Big Oak United Methodist Church, or a favorite charity.
