Services for Larry Kermit Smith will be held Monday, December 24, 2018, at 1 p.m. from McClain-Hays Chapel with Rev. Jay Pace officiating. Burial will follow in New Prospect Cemetery in Carthage, MS. Visitation will be held Sunday, December 23, 2018, from 5 until 8 p.m. at McClain-Hays Funeral Home. McClain-Hays Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Larry K. Smith, 70, of Carthage, died on Friday, December 21, 2018, at St. Dominic in Jackson, MS. From his birth in Union on April 4, 1948, until his death on Friday he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend to all who knew him. He was the oldest of three boys and grew up in Sunrise. He attended and graduated from Edinburg Attendance Center in 1966. He then went on to attend William Carey College to be a math teacher. He was enlisted in the Air Guard and National Guard Army for over 28 years. He served his country to protect what he believed to be the right way of living. He worked for U. S. Motors in Philadelphia, MS, for 32 years being a mechanic until the plant closed, and then he started working for Leake County Co-Op for over 12 years where he drove a truck for them. He was the type of person who would give his shirt off his back to help someone in need and will truly be missed. He left behind his wife, Lynn Smith of Carthage, MS; daughter, Jamie Lynn Smith of Ridgeland, MS; son, Josh Smith and daughter-in-law, Judith Smith of Carthage, MS; four beautiful grandchildren; brother, Rickey Smith of Carthage, MS; four nieces and one nephew. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his mother, Mytris Smith; father, Kermet Smith; and brother, Joe Smith. Pallbearers are Harry Beckham, Eddie Carroll, Eddie Dale Thornton, Bo Bell, Tristian Smith, and Tyler Smith.
