A service to honor Joyce's life will be held at the Lynville Community Church (116 Kellis Store Ave, Lynville, MS) on Saturday, June 29th at 2pm. Joyce Marie Lampe (Skipper), aged 95, passed away, peacefully on June 15, 2024, in Philadelphia, MS. Born on April 29, 1929, in Gholson, Mississippi, Joyce was a beloved mother to Philip (Shannon) and Bruce (Teresa), a cherished grandmother to Eric, and a dear sister to Retha George (Romey), and Evie Jo Blackbourne (Bob). She is survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins. Joyce was preceded in death by her father Evie, mother Florence (Sanford), sister Retha George (Romey), and ex-husband Edward Lampe. Joyce dedicated over 50 years of her life to teaching and was a lifelong learner. She pursued higher education at the age of 60, earning a master’s degree in Special Education. Her passion for education took her to various places, including Roswell, New Mexico; Venezuela, South America; Metairie, Louisiana; St. Croix, U.S Virgin Islands; Moss Point and Greenville, Mississippi. Joyce received numerous teaching awards and was recognized as an expert in her field. Outside of her career, Joyce was an advocate for the less fortunate and those facing adversity. She believed in seeing the goodness in people. She was a philanthropist, and always strived to enhance the community she lived in. A Methodist by faith, Joyce found solace in reading the Bible and had many favorite verses. In her free time she enjoyed traveling & meeting new people, singing & playing the piano, reading & participating in book clubs, and gardening. Even into her 80s, Joyce could be found mowing her own yard and tending to her garden with great care. Joyce will be dearly missed by all who knew her, as her legacy of kindness, dedication, and love lives on in the lives she touched.
