A graveside celebration of Jolynn’s life will be held this Saturday, January 4, at 11:00 a.m. at Cedarlawn Cemetery.

Jolynn Parker passed away on December 30, 2024, at the age of 84, surrounded by her family. She was born on October 18, 1940, in Philadelphia, Mississippi.

She was an alumna of the University of Mississippi, where she played the flute in the Ole Miss band. Her passion for education led her to a fulfilling career as a public school teacher, including time spent teaching on the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians reservation. Jolynn delighted in the experiences she had and loved sharing stories from her time on the reservation.

Jolynn found immense joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved bargain shopping, especially at Big Lots, where she delighted in finding thoughtful gifts for family and friends. A true people person, she enjoyed her daily lunches at Vowell’s, where she could share good food and see friends. Jolynn had a knack for staying informed about everything happening around her and made it her business to stay connected. Her curiosity and involvement added to her vibrant personality, making her unforgettable.

She cherished celebrating holidays and special occasions with her family in Madison and was a beloved presence at the Neshoba County Fair, where she cultivated lifelong friendships and created countless memories. Jolynn’s life was defined by generosity, laughter, and her unwavering love for those around her.

Predeceased by her loving parents, Davis and Ola Parker, Jolynn is survived by numerous cousins, dear friends, and the many lives she touched.

Pallbearers will be Hugh Parker, Robert Parker, Will Parker, J.T. Parker, Mary Helen Abel, and Jay Abel.

Honorary pallbearers will be Hugh Parker Abel and John Abel.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Senior Adult Ministry at First Methodist Church in Philadelphia.
