Joseph L. "Joe" Spinks

Funeral services for Joseph L. “Joe” Spinks will be held Monday, June 25, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of McClain-Hays Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Howard and Rev. David Fedrick officiating. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery in Philadelphia with a private family graveside service. Visitation will be held Sunday, June 24, 2018, from 2 p. m. until 5 p. m. at McClain-Hays Funeral Home. Joseph L. “Joe” Spinks, 78, passed away June 19, 2018. He was a native of Colfax, LA, and a graduate of Colfax High School. He attended Northwestern State College and LSU where he earned a degree in forestry in 1966. He began work as a forester with International Paper Company in DeKalb, and over the course of his career was employed with Molpus Lumber Company and Louisiana Pacific in Philadelphia. He retired from Georgia Pacific in Louisville in 2003. Mr. Spinks was a former member of Beacon Street Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. At the time of his death he was a member of First Baptist Church. He joined the Society of  American Foresters in 1966, where he was elected “Fellow”, and remained a member at the time of his death. He was a past president of the Neshoba County Jaycees, The Neshoba County Forestry Association, and the Mississippi Forestry Association. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Shirley Bullington Spinks of Philadelphia; daughter, Renee Talbert (Robert) of Myrtle Beach, S. C.; one grandson, Joey Darnell of Myrtle Beach, S. C.; and a host of nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Neshoba County Baptist Association, or to a favorite charity.
