A celebration of the life of Jody Jarrell will be held Friday, March 15, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of McClain-Hays Funeral Home in Philadelphia. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Jody was a laidback, easy going man. He liked the simple things. He never felt comfortable in a coat and tie. But rather, he enjoyed sporting his many Hawaiian shirts or his Mississippi State clothing. It’s only fitting that we too remember Jody by honoring his memory in a laidback Hawaiian shirt, Mississippi State gear or your favorite style of comfort. Joe Henry Jarrell, Jr. “Jody” was born March 17, 1949, to Joe and Christine Jarrell. He passed away Monday, March 11, 2024, following a short illness. He grew up in Philadelphia and graduated from Philadelphia High School. He furthered his education at Mississippi State University where he earned a degree in Forestry. He worked for the Mississippi Forestry Commission for 25 years before retiring. Jody was made for retirement enjoying his favorite hobbies like saltwater fishing, gardening, the outdoors and his Mississippi State Bulldogs. He married the love of his life, Leah, in Oct. 1984. Jody was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Christine Jarrell, grandparents James and Bessie Jarrell and Jim and Addie Mae Scott. Jody was also preceded in death by two of his best buds, Fent DeWeese and Larry Mills. His survivors include his wife, Leah Cole Jarrell, and his sister, Jan Jarrell. He is also survived by a large family of in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins and best buds Don Kilgore and Dick Molpus. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to your favorite charity
