Funeral services for Joan Pou Thompson will be held Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 11 a.m. from McClain-Hays Chapel with Bro. James Lewis and Bro. Curt Pace officiating. Burial will follow in New Harmony Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 10 a.m. until service time at McClain-Hays Funeral Home. Mrs. Thompson, 81, of Philadelphia died Wednesday, April 3, 2024. Joan was a native of Neshoba County and a lifelong resident of the Zephyr Hill Community, passed away peacefully. She began her educational journey at Zephyr Hill Schools before graduating from Neshoba Central and briefly attended ECJC. Joan’s professional endeavors included owning a beauty salon for a number of years and was employed at several different local businesses through the years. She most recently held the esteemed position of District Women’s Chair for the Farm Bureau Federation. Alongside her professional commitments, Joan was a devoted homemaker and co-owner of Broke T Farms. Her heart overflowed with love for her husband, children, and grandchildren. She also had a deep love for animals, most notably her beloved cat, Peaches. Joan’s culinary skills were legendary, especially her mouthwatering chicken and dumplings, delectable pecan pies, and comforting banana pudding. A pillar of her community, Joan dedicated herself to the spiritual well-being of others. She served as cherished children’s Sunday School teacher both at Hope Baptist and then at New Harmony Baptist Church, which remained her church home through the end of her life. Joan’s legacy is one of love, service, and unwavering faith. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Kenneth Thompson of Philadelphia; daughter, Wendy Bowen (Mike) of Jackson, TN; sons, Johnny Thompson (Sharon) of Philadelphia and Kevin Thompson (Anita) of Meridian; grandchildren, Cal Bowen (Brooke), Megan Bowen, Micah McKee, Josh Thompson (Mamie), Caleb Thompson (Cassie) and Abby Clanin (Mason); six great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Rogers (John); and a host of nieces, nephews and their families. Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her parents, John and Shirley Pou. In lieu of flowers the family request all memorials be made to Gideon’s International.
