Graveside services for James “Jimmy” Hardy Thames, Sr. will be held Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. from Cedarlawn Cemetery with Rev. Bob Rambo officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 4, 2024 from 10 a.m. until departure time from McClain-Hays Funeral Home. Mr. Thames, 79, of Starkville passed away at his home on Sunday, June 2, 2024. Jimmy was born in Newton, MS to James McDonald Thames and Carolyn Blount Thames. Most of his life was spent in Newton. He graduated from Bay Springs High School and attended Jones Jr. College before he moved to Starkville to graduate from MS State University. Jimmy started his career in the Banking industry before moving in the MS Economic Development for the state. Later we would work for MS Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks and then MS Department of Corrections where he retired. Survivors include his wife of over 23 years, Brenda Kilby Thames; sons, James Hardy Thames, Jr. (Katherine) of Gulfport and Jonathan Plez Tyler Thames (Allison) of Starkville; grandchildren, Benjamin Thames, Mary Thames, Simon Thames and James Bush; several nieces, nephews and their families. Mr. Thames was preceded in death by his parents, James McDonald Thames and Carolyn Blount Thames; sister, Joan Thames Howse. Pallbearers, Simon Thames, Matt Homan, Paul Brassfield, James Bush, David Crews and Brian Kelly. Honorary Pallbearers, Bryan Spencer and Benji Thames.
