Janice Weaver Stokes

Funeral services for Janice Weaver Stokes will be held Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at 1 p.m. from McClain-Hays Chapel with Bro. Chris Gully and Bro. Mike Sims officiating. Burial will follow in Coy Community Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, July 1, 2024 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. from McClain-Hays Funeral Home. Mrs. Stokes, 82, of Preston died Friday, June 28, 2024. Janice was born in Noxubee County, but raised in Kemper County and attended Lynville Schools. She retired from Witco-Richardson after 33 years of employment and was also employed at Garan and MS Employment Security Commission for several years. She loved to cook, sew, read, EMCC sports and she volunteered for several Civic organizations over the years. She was named Kemper County Business person of the year. Janice was married to Roy, the love of her life for 65 years and she dearly loved her grandchildren and traveled many, many miles for all their athletic events. Mrs. Stokes was a longtime member of Coy Community Church. Survivors include her husband, Roy Stokes of Preston; sons, Mickey Stokes (Susan) of Hoover, AL and Terry Stokes of Preston; grandchildren, Meagan Fowler (Jonathan), Jessica Ingram (Scott), Collin Stokes (Morgan), Dustin Stokes (Allison) and Courtney Garrett; seven great-grandchildren; sister Annette Taylor (Olin) of Preston. Mrs. Stokes was preceded in death by her parents, J.W. and Doug Weaver; brother Johnny Weaver; father and mother-in-law, RB and Nannie Stokes. Pallbearers, Collin Stokes, Terry Bostick, Tony Luke, David Taylor, Josh Weaver and Mark Hailey. Honorary Pallbearers, Dan Nance, Dwight Bostick and Bobby Weaver.
