James "Jim" Matheney

Services will be held on Sunday September 10, 2023 at 3:00 pm from McClain-Hays Chapel with Rev. Phillip Rowland, Rev. Neil Chadwick, Rev. Curt Pace and Rev. Dennis Duvall officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday September 10, 2023 from 1:30 pm until service time at McClain-Hays. Interment will be in New Harmony Cemetery. Mr. Matheney of Philadelphia died September 7, 2023 at his home. Mr. Matheney has been a resident of Philadelphia, MS since 2005, Prior to Philadelphia he lived in Morrilton, AR, and Mobile, AL. He was in the U.S. Navy and retired after 22 years of service. He worked as an electrician at Ingalls, Avondale and Textron Shipbuilding for several years where he took great pride in his work. He was a member and deacon at New Harmony Baptist Church and also a member of the American Legion. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Tina White Matheney; daughter, Leigh Earles (Bob) of Lake Jackson TX; son, Allen Matheney of Philadelphia, MS; Grandchildren, Mallory Vela, Ashley Sledge, Chris Matheney, Neal Earles, Josh Earles and Cory Earles; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Albert Matheney, Sidney Matheney, Ed Matheney and Jerry Stiles; and numerous nieces, nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his father, Roland “Minch” Matheney; mother, Roxie Stiles; brother, R.J. Matheney; sister, Ruth “Sis” Bolt. Pallbearers will be Jason Matheney, Scott Matheney, Sean Matheney, Jean Matheney, Connie Wesley, Chris Matheney, Ashley Sledge and Krystale Sledge.
