Henry C. Matthews

Funeral services for Henry C. Matthews will be held Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. from McClain-Hays Chapel with Rev. Dennis Duvall, Rev. Matthew Jones and Rev. Michael Carter officiating. Burial will follow with military honors in the Bloomfield Cemetery in Neshoba County. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at McClain-Hays Funeral Home from 5:00 p. m. until 8:00 p.m. McClain-Hays Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Matthews, 89, of Philadelphia, died Saturday, June 19, 2021, at his home. He was a native and longtime resident of Neshoba County. He enlisted in the U. S. Air Force in 1952 and earned the rank TSgt, and retired in 1973. After his retirement from the USAF he drove a truck for Enterprise products over the road for several years and later farmed. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and most anything outdoors. He was a lifetime member of the DAV. Mr. Matthews was a member of Philadelphia Church of God. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Wanda Matthews of Philadelphia; daughters, Belinda Brown (Neil) of Springfield, MO; Karen Matthews of Lee’s Summit, MO; sons, Richard Matthews (Sandra) and Mike Williamson (Crystal), all of Philadelphia; eleven grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Preceding Mr. Matthews in death were his parents, Robert and Ola Matthews; sisters, Selma Matthews, Thelma Matthews, Ruth Matthews, Mayzell Jones, and Betrude Sistrunk; brothers, Arvis Matthews, Teasley Matthews, and R. B. Matthews. Pallbearers are Phillip Williamson, Wade Pierce, Jacob Brown, Marc Davis, John Plunkett, Michael Carter, and Aaron Plunkett. The family would like to express a special thanks to Quality Hospice; caregivers, Marilyn and Barbara; and Donna Alford, FNP, with VA Home Base for the so graciously given professional, kind and compassionate care.
