Funeral services for Gregory O. Smith will be held Saturday, July 6, 2024 at 12 noon from McClain-Hays Chapel with J. Clark, Philip Prince and Kevin Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Cooks Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday, July 6, 2024 from 10 a.m. until service time at McClain-Hays Funeral Home. Mr. Smith, 62, of Philadelphia died Wednesday, July 3, 2024. Greg was born in Neshoba County but was raised in Union, MS and was a graduate of Union High School. He was a business owner his entire career in the restaurant industry and in 2003 he and his wife Pam opened City Limits. He loved his grandchildren dearly, going fishing and riding the mule with them in the afternoons. Greg loved to meet and interact with people, playing practical jokes, being outdoors, especially operating heavy equipment. Greg and Pam started Jail Ministries in 2003 and later evolved into Strong Towers Ministries in 2007. Mr. Smith was a longtime member of Church of the Arc and an honorary member of Ocobla Baptist Church. Survivors include wife, Pam Smith of Philadelphia; mother, Peggy Smith of Philadelphia; daughters, Kadee Taylor (Ryan) of Philadelphia and Kellie Allen (Jarrett) of Philadelphia; sons, Patrick Watson (Melissa) of Philadelphia; Steven Smith (Brittany) of Grenada, Matthew Smith of Johnson City, TN and Jessee Smith of Kingsport, Tn; brother, Steve Smith of Philadelphia; sisters, Sherry Cooper of Florence and Suzy Byrd of Meridian; 10 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and their families. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his father, OQ Smith. Pallbearers, Shane Patterson, Jeremy Morgan, Hosea McBeath, Brad Joiner, Chad Ridout, Maurice Brown and Ace Parker. Honorary Pallbearers, Mark Ferguson, David Mock, Keon Triplett and Joe Cumberland.
