Gene Vance

Services will be held on Monday, January 9, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. from McClain-Hays Chapel. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 8, 2023, from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. at McClain-Hays Funeral Home. Carlton “Gene” Vance, 70, of Union, MS passed away Jan. 6 after a long illness. Gene was a native of Calhoun City, MS, a graduate of Calhoun City High School and Kentucky School of Mortuary Science. His funeral home career spanned 40+ years, serving families at both McClain Hays, Philadelphia, and Stephens Funeral Homes, Meridian. He was a past member of Meridian Rotary Club, Tipmasters Club, and EMBDC Leadership Lauderdale. He also served as a consultant for the funeral services trade program at EMCC Scooba. Mr. Vance was a member of Crossway Community Church in Philadelphia and an avid fan of the MSU Bulldogs. Survivors include his spouse Jewell Kay Vance, sons, Chad Vance (Stacy) and Jonathan Vance (Meghan), daughter Erin Vance (Eric), all of Union, MS; grandchildren, Reagan Vance of Hattiesburg, Michael Vance, Skylar Vance, Khol Vance, Emery Vance, Bennett Vance, and Leighton Vance, all of Union, MS. He was preceded in death by his father Carlton Odell Vance, his mother Helen Edwards Vance, and a brother Wayne Vance.
