Memorial services will be held at a later date for Mr. Edward O’Neil Buckman who passed away Thursday January 9, 2025. He was born in Laurel, MS and spent many years in Leake county. He loved gardening, cooking, canning, reading his bible. He loved his country, family, and friends. He is survived by his wife Erlinda of 27 years; daughter, Melissa (Joe) Keene; grandchildren Charles Johnson, William Johnson, Garrett (Mallorie) Buckman, Savannah Buckman; great-grandchildren, Montana Johnson, Luke Buckman, Alayna Buckman, Tucker Buckman, Stella Buckman; sister, Peggy Janine Buckman Quinley; brother Timothy Buckman. He was preceded in death by his parents William Edward Buckman and Annie Frances Buckman and son Glenn Buckman. With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Edward Oneil Buckman, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at the age of 74 in Carthage, Mississippi. Born on April 13, 1950, in Laurel, Mississippi, Edward was a cherished member of his community and known for his warm heart and unwavering dedication to his family and friends. He spent his early years in Laurel, where he formed lifelong friendships that stood the test of time. Edward proudly served his country as a dedicated member of the United States Army, where he displayed remarkable courage, discipline, and fortitude and he was a Purple Heart recipient. His years in military service were a defining period of his life, and they instilled in him values that he carried with him throughout his civilian life. After completing his military service, Edward worked as an electrician, a profession he was passionate about and committed to for many decades. His expertise, skill, and reliability earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike. Edward’s work not only illuminated homes and businesses but also brightened the lives of those who had the privilege to know him. Edward settled in Carthage, Mississippi, where he became an integral part of the community. He was known for his friendly demeanor and his readiness to lend a helping hand. In his leisure time, Edward enjoyed fishing, gardening, and spending cherished moments with his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy. The arrangements for Edward's final farewell are entrusted to McClain-Hays Funeral Service. His family invites all those who knew and loved him to join them in celebrating Edward’s well-lived life. Edward leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and dedication. He will be deeply missed by his family, including his children, grandchildren, extended relatives, and the many friends he made along his journey.
