Dr. William Lamar Marty Molpus

Services for Dr. William Lamar “Marty” Molpus will be held Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at 2 p.m. from McClain-Hays Chapel with Rev. Chris Young officiating.  Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery in Philadelphia.  Visitation will be held Tuesday from 12 noon until time of service.  McClain-Hays Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Dr. Molpus, 88, of Philadelphia, died Sunday, January 6, 2019, at Choctaw Residential Center.  William Lamar “Marty” Molpus was born and raised in the Forestdale Community.  He graduated from East Neshoba High School and played basketball at East Central Junior College.  He served two years in the U. S. Army during the Korean War and was discharged as Sergeant First Class. He returned from service, attended Mississippi State University, and graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Veterinary Medicine in 1958.  He worked for the U. S. Department of Agriculture for several years in Hattiesburg, MS, before transferring to Carthage, MS.  Several years after retirement he moved back to his hometown of Philadelphia.  He loved golf, loved to fish, and loved all sports, especially the Mississippi State Bulldogs. He leaves behind his loving wife of 59 years, Mary Carolyn (Fox) Molpus; one son, Dr. William Mark Molpus (Amy) of Hattiesburg; four grandchildren, Shealy, Katie, Anna Grace and Maddie Molpus; and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.  Dr. Molpus is preceded in death by parents, Charlie and Polly Molpus; and siblings, Lester, Charles, Ben, Ernest, Beatrice and Mavis. Pallbearers are John Molpus, H. V. Neal, Shepherd Robbins, Walt Robbins, Jim Sisson and John Forrest Sisson. In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials be made to First United Methodist Church of Philadelphia, or a favorite charity.
