Services for Douglas R. Whitehead will be held Thursday, May 30, 2019 at 2 p.m. from McClain-Hays Chapel with Rev. Josh Meadows officiating. Burial will follow in Sandtown Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 29, 2019 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at McClain-Hays Funeral Home. McClain-Hays Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Whitehead, 76, of Philadelphia died Tuesday, May 28, 2019. He was a native of Sandtown Community of Neshoba County. He was a resident of Vicksburg during his time of working with the Army Corps of Engineers, and he returned to the Sandtown Community upon his retirement. Mr. Whitehead was a member of Spring Creek Baptist Church where he was a deacon and Sunday School Teacher and a member of N.A.R.F.E. He served in The U.S. Air Force. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Whitehead; daughters, Deborah Lashley (Stacy), Jennifer Mathews (Christopher); grandchildren, Jordan Stribling (Reid), Dylan Lashley (Madi), James Douglas Mathews and Lauren Mathews; great-grandchild, Leighton Trapp McIlwain; brother, Doice Whitehead (Sarah); numerous nieces and nephews and their children and all his pets. Preceded in death by his son, Kevin Whitehead; parents , William Sherman Whitehead and Claudia Dell Stokes Whitehead; sisters, Bonnie Clark, Opal Mobley and Margie Lewis; brothers, Harold Boswell, Bennie Whitehead, Gerald Whitehead, and James Earl Whitehead.
