A private family graveside service will be held for Mrs. Dimple Adkins on Sunday, December 27, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. from Cedarlawn Cemetery with Dr. Eddie Mahaffey officiating and Robbe Mahaffey bringing special music. McClain-Hays Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Adkins, 83, of Philadelphia, passed away Friday, December 18, 2020, at Neshoba County Nursing Home in Philadelphia. A native and lifelong resident of Neshoba County, Mrs. Adkins was born on January 29, 1937, to Eugene and Jettie Tidwell. She grew up in the Neshoba community and graduated from Union High School, where she was known to be an outstanding basketball player. She graduated from East Central Community College and the University of Southern Mississippi. After graduating from college, she pursued her life-long dream of becoming a teacher. She taught in Meridian, Edinburg, and Philadelphia School Districts until her retirement. She married the love of her life, Gary E. Adkins, on August 11, 1963. Together, she and Gary opened Adkins Pharmacy in 1968 and ran the successful, community-oriented business until his untimely death in 1991. Mrs. Adkins professed her faith in Jesus Christ and was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church. She was a Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir, and served in the children’s ministry. Mrs. Adkins was a Godly mother, and she deeply loved her children, grandchildren, and extended family. She was a dedicated teacher and touched the lives of many students. Survivors include her daughter, Carol Ann (Phil) Thomas of Greenbrier, Arkansas; son, David (Amy) Adkins of Philadelphia; grandchildren, Rebecca, Cullen, and Luke Thomas of Greenbrier, Arkansas, Ethan Adkins of Philadelphia, and Allyson (Ryan) Crawford of Philadelphia; great-grandchildren, Ryleigh-Paige, Jordy Lane, and Emmy Ray Crawford of Philadelphia; sister, Ouida (David) Kahlstorf of Ridgeland, Mississippi; and a host of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Adkins was preceded in death by her husband, Gary E. Adkins; parents, Eugene and Jettie Tidwell; and brothers, Herbert Tidwell and Billy Tidwell. Pallbearers are David Adkins, Ethan Adkins, Phil Thomas, Cullen Thomas, and Luke Thomas. Honorary pallbearers are nephews of Mrs. Adkins: Jeff Foreman, Steve Tidwell, Dr. Stephen Smith, Dr. Mike Smith, and Philip Smith. The family would like to express a heartfelt thanks to the Neshoba County Nursing Home staff and to Dr. Todd Willis for their care for Mrs. Adkins throughout the years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gideons International or to Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children in memoriam of Mrs. Dimple Adkins.
