Services for Mr. Derwood Raynold Walton will be held Sunday, December 9, 2018, at 2 p. m. from McClain-Hays Chapel with Rev. Ed Keen and Rev. Robert Garcia officiating. Burial will follow in Beech Springs Cemetery in Union, MS. Visitation will be held Saturday, December 8, 2018, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at McClain-Hays Funeral Home. McClain-Hays Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Walton, 89, of Philadelphia, died Thursday, December 6, 2018. A native and longtime resident of Neshoba County, he graduated from Dixon High School in 1945, and attended ECCC for two years. He joined the Navy in 1947 and served on the USS Saratoga aircraft carrier as an Aviation Electronics Technician during the Korean War. He retired from the U. S. Navy in 1967 as an Aviation Electronics Chief Instructor from Cecil Field Air Base in Jacksonville, FL. He then began instructing electronics at North Florida Community College in Madison, FL until 1973. In 1975 he moved back to Neshoba County and started his own business named as Walton’s Radio & TV Repair until 1986, and then enjoyed full retirement. His passion was racing during which time he won 67 championships and 1724 races with go carts, and then built all sorts of racing vehicles. He was a active member of the Dixon Fire Department and he had donated the property for the Dixon Fire Station #2. Mr. Walton had been a member and gave full support to the Gideons International was a member of Beech Springs Church in Neshoba County. Survivors include daughter, Deborah Walton of Philadelphia; sons, Rev. Gary E. Walton (Jennifer) of Philadelphia, Steve Allen Walton (Carla) of DeKalb; nine grandchildren, Angella Monk, Alisia Noland (Gregory), Michael Slaven (Tammy), Joshua Glen Walton, Gary Ray Walton (Natalia), Randell Walton (Brandie), Elizabeth Jenkins (Tony), Melody Walton and Jaynah Walton; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Mr. Walton was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Theobalt Walton; son, Glen Raynold Walton; grandson, Alexander Walton; and sister, Sarah Walton.
