Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, August 11, 2024 from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. and 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. Monday at McClain-Hays Funeral Home. Delilah Ann “Nell” Shaw was a native of Winston County with deep roots there as well as Choctaw County. Nell was a devoted wife and mother who moved to Philadelphia with her husband Charles in 1957 living here her entire adult life. A couple of her passions besides family were music, literature, cooking and history. She was an accomplished pianist and vocalist, attended classes at Mississippi State University, and was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. Nell worked as a legal/ court clerk before going to work for the Choctaw Indian Schools and finally as Head Administrative Secretary for the BIA Eastern Region for 28 years. She was also married to Cleo Cumberland almost ten years after being widowed. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and later Trinity Baptist Church where she was an active member as long as she was able. Survivors include her three children, including eldest son, Charles Houston Shaw, III (Maria) of Tucson, AZ; daughter ,Charlotte Ann Yarbrough of Philadelphia, MS; and youngest son, Floyd Allison Shaw of Philadelphia, MS; four grandsons, Justin Lee Shaw (Jennifer); Brett Andrew Shaw; Jeremiah Morgan Shaw; and Isaac Houston Shaw (Storny); seven granddaughters, Constance Morgan Kirkland (Jeffrey); Dana Elizabeth McMahan (Paul); Heather Anne Shaw; Yannah Mere Cormier (Chris); Tanaiya Ryena Fullmer (Dennis); Rebekah Ann Butler; and Shanna Maria Ross. Eight great-grandsons including Ellis Shaw, Colton Shaw, Trenton Kirkland, Jacob Kirkland, Raini Cormier, Hunter Cormier, Jonathan Fulmer, and Elijah Ross. Six great-granddaughters including Kristen Cottle, Emberlynne Shaw, Jade Marfil, Catherine Guerra, Cheyenne MacPherson, and Eden Ross. Great-Great-Grandchildren include Frederick and Patricia MacPherson. Ms. Shaw was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Houston Shaw, Jr.; second husband, Cleo Cumberland; brother, Douglas Hunt; and sister, Margaret "Mae" Hemphill. Pallbearers, Justin Shaw, Jeffrey Kirkland, Trenton Kirkland, Jacob Kirkland, Chris Cormier and Paul McMahan. Honorary Pallbearers, James Mars, Dan Mars, Gary Cagle, David Parker and Danny Yarbrough.
