Funeral services for David Earl “Scooter” Smith will be held Monday, April 21, 2025 at 2 p.m. from McClain-Hays Chapel with Bro. Dennis Duvall officiating. Burial will follow in Coldwater Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, April 20, 2025 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at McClain-Hays Funeral Home.
Mr. Smith, 58, of Philadelphia passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2025.
David was born and raised in Neshoba County to Thomas and Louise Smith. He was a graduate of Neshoba Central High School Class of 1986 and was employed for 36 years at Yates Building Supply as the lumber yard manager. He loved to hunt, fish and also served with the Hope Volunteer Fire Department where he served as fire chief for the last 20 years. Mr. Smith was a longtime member of Hope Baptist Church. David was a friend to all and never met a stranger. His grandson River held a special place in his heart, as well as the rest of his family and he will be surely missed.
Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Christy Smith of Philadelphia; daughters, Chloe Floyd (Andrew) and Emmy Smith all of Philadelphia; grandson, River Floyd; sister, Theresa Stewart (Jimmy); uncles, Scottie Smith (Robin), Larry Smith (Betty) and David Martin; aunts, Patricia Melton, Rachel Tucker (Gary), Linda Chenault (Gene), Joeann Killibrew, Yvette Williams (Horace), Mary Quinn and Margaret Peebles (Steve); numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Louise Smith.
