Charles Ray Fulton

Services will be held on Monday, October 24, 2022 at 12:00 Noon from McClain-Hays Chapel. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 24, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will be held in Lynville Cemetery in Preston, MS. Charles Ray Fulton was born to George Russell and Ethel Teer Fulton in Philadelphia, Mississippi on November 4, 1944. Ray was a Kemper County native and completed high school in Lynville. He received a scholarship after high school to East Mississippi Community College and then graduated from Mississippi State University with honors including Phi Kappa Phi. He was a Garner Fellow of history at Mississippi State. He went on to get his PhD at the University of Mississippi and continued his post-doctoral work at the University of California at Los Angeles. He met the love of his life, Margery Brown Fulton, and married during his educational career in Jacksonville, Florida. They were married for 43 years and shared the love of education while influencing and mentoring many students. He served in all levels of education from teaching which he loved to leadership roles as superintendent. Ray also taught at the University of Mississippi School of Education. He loved his work and his students receiving career awards in all the states he worked: Mississippi, Florida, Arizona, and Georgia (Valdosta). He was preceded in death by his wife, Margery Brown Fulton, his parents, and an identical twin brother, Thomas Clay. He is survived by a sister, Peggy Fulton (Pensacola, FL), a brother, George Fulton (Kemper County, MS), cousin Jackie Branning and friends Jerry Corless, Dr. Jim McAuley and Mike McLarty and many grateful previous students.
