Graveside service for Mr. Bruce Counts will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, February 13, 2023 at Coy Community Church Cemetery. Bro. Mike Sims will officiate. Visitation will be held 2:00- 4:00 pm, Sunday, February 12, 2023 at McClain-Hays Funeral Service. Mr. Bruce Counts, 82, of Preston died on Friday, February 10, 2023. Mr. Bruce was born in Horn Lake, MS. He also lived in Pensacola, FL for a short while. He has been a resident of Kemper County for last 28 years. He served in the US Navy for 20 years in Fighter Squadron Eleven and retired in the highest rank in the navy as a E6 Chief Petty Officer. He also served 15 years civil service as an aircraft mechanic. He ended his working career working 12 years at Wal-Mart. He loved riding horses, going to the stockyard, auctions, redoing furniture; he was an excellent craftsman. Mr. Counts was Christian by faith. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Goodin Counts of Preston; grandchildren, Heather Pitts (Michael Valverde) of Preston, Winter Counts of Preston, Daniel Combs of Meridian, MS; great-grandchild, Harper Moore of Preston, MS; brothers, James Sparks (Jayna) of Horn Lake, MS, Dough Richardson of Memphis, TN, Monroe Sparks, Jr., George Sparks (Denise), sisters, Nellie Campbell, Goldie Rainey and Agnes Sherard (David). He was preceded in death by his mother, Goldie Mae Sparks and his father, Waldo Counts.
