Laura Alene Griffith

A graveside service will be held for Mrs. Alene Martin Griffith on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at 2 p.m. from Cedarlawn Cemetery with Rev. David Storment officiating. McClain-Hays Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Griffith, 95, of Philadelphia, died Sunday, January 17, 2021, at Atwood Personal Care Home. Mrs. Griffith was born on October 1, 1925, in Birmingham, AL, to Thomas and Elsie Martin. She graduated from East Central Community College and Delta State University. After graduating from college, she pursued her life-long dream of becoming a teacher and taught a total of 30 years at Sunflower, Arcola, Blaine and Indianola schools. She married Harry Griffith on December 26, 1947, and after retiring they moved to Philadelphia. Mrs. Griffith professed her faith in Jesus Christ and was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Philadelphia. Mrs. Griffith was preceded in death by her husband Harry Griffith; and survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families. The family would like to express a heartfelt thanks to the Atwood Personal Care and Quality Hospice Care of Philadelphia's staff for their professional and compassionate care for Mrs. Griffith.
