Carolyn Jo Sims Tharp

Graveside services for Carolyn Jo Sims Tharp will be held Saturday, August 28, 2010 at 11 AM from Lick Creek Cemetery in Perry, Missouri under the direction of James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal, Missouri.  Rev. Mike Kennison will officiate. Ms. Carolyn Jo SIms Tharp, 71, died Monday, August 23, 2010 at Neshoba County Nursing Home.   She was born and raised in Perry, Missouri.  She received her RN degree from Barnes Hospital School of Nursing in 1959.  She married Charles Patrick Tharp in 1960 and moved to Oxford, Mississippi in September, 1962.  While in Oxford, she worked in the Emergency Room for Lafayette County Hospital.  They lived there until 1966, when they moved to Birmingham, Alabama.  While in Birmingham, she worked for University of Alabama at Birmingham in their recovery room for several years.  Following the birth of their second child, Tricia, she chose to be a stay-at-home mother.  In 1970, the family moved to St. Louis, Missouri where Carolyn lived until April of 2004 when she moved to Philadelphia, Mississippi to be near her daughter, Joni and her family.   She was preceded in death by her daughter, Tricia LeAnn Tharp; and parents, Reginald and Helen Sims.   Survivors include daughter, Joni T. Duncan and her husband, Mark of Philadelphia; grandson, Ben Duncan of Philadelphia; brother, R. Wallace Sims and his wife, Donna of High Ridge, MO; one niece and one nephew and their families.   Pallbearers:  Ben Duncan, Roy Sims, Zach Sims, Jordan Sims, Tommy Wammack, and Matt Swetman.   In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church Television Ministry, 563 East Main Street, Philadelphia, MS 39350.McClain-Hays Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
