JERRY SMITHMrs. Thomas, 98, went to be with her Lord on July 10, 2010 at the Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. She was born and raised in Newton County and lived in the Dowdville Community of Neshoba County most of her life. She was a homemaker, loving mother, and a gentle caring lady. She loved her family, gardening and her flowers. She taught preschool children and was a long time faithful member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church of the Rose Bud Community of Leake County. When she moved to Byram, she joined the Wynndale Baptist Church and was active as long as she was able. The family appreciates the love and care given to Mrs. Thomas by the Willowcreek Nursing Home in Byram and Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. Survivors include daughters, Carol Thomas Russell of Huntsville, AL, Patricia Thomas Green and her husband, John of Terry, and Barbara Thomas Shook and her husband, Donald of Philadelphia; sons Robert Moncree Thomas and his wife, Nancy of Flowood, Donald Lee Thomas and his wife, Dell of Brandon, and James Carl Thomas and his wife, Kathy of Philadelphia; 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her husband, William Edward Thomas of 56 years; sons, William Benford Thomas and Roy Taylor Thomas; father, Frederick Leroy "Roy" Barfoot and mother, Martha Adline "Addie" Stamper Barfoot McPhail. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Neshoba Gideons, PO Box 244, Philadelphia MS 39350 or your favorite charity.
