TIM VOWELLINTERMENT: CEDARLAWN CEMETERYMr. John Olin Beery, 81, died Monday, March 22, 2010 at Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian. He was born in Saboba Hospital near Valley Center, CA, on September 29, 1928, to Olin Rosco Beery and Mary Lois Wyatt Beery. Both parents and a brother, Joe Beery of Beatty, NV, preceded him in death. John was a Baptist by faith. At age three, Mr. Beery's family moved from California to Schurz, NV, and at age eight his family moved to Philadelphia, MS. After high school he joined the U.S. Naval Air Force Cadet Training in Pensacola, FL, and advanced to Lieutenant. He was a pilot and instructor. Mr. Beery served in the theater of operations in the Pacific Ocean during World War II, flying planes from aircraft carriers. At one time during his tenure in the Naval Air Force, he served on the Admirals staff in Washington, D.C. After World War II he stayed in the U.S. Air Force Reserve until he retired. In 1951 he married Natalie Gross of Carthage, MS. Mr. Beery is survived by two daughters, Linda Gail Sparks and husband, Leon Sparks of Fort Smith, AR and Ruth Ann Burrage and husband, Olen Burrage, Jr. of Philadelphia, MS; three granddaughters, Danielle Hasty of Fort Smith, AR, Jessica Burrage Myers and husband, Lee Myers, and Jenifer Burrage Branning and husband, Chancy Branning of Philadelphia, MS; five great grandchildren, Garrett, Riley and Marleigh Myers and Ethan and Ellis Branning. He is also survived by three sisters, Margaret Brasher of Jackson, MS, Doris Perry, and Georgia Parkes and husband, Cleveland Parkes of Philadelphia, MS; a special nephew, Jay Beery Huyssoon and wife, Patty of Rio Vista, CA; and a host of nieces and nephews.
