CHRIS VOWELLREV. BRUCE TAYLOR Mrs. Martha Wheeler, 86, died Friday, February 12, 2010 at Neshoba County Nursing Home in Philadelphia. She was born in Pontotoc, MS, graduated from Mississippi University of Women (MUW), formerly Mississippi State College for Women (MSCW) and taught school for a few years. She married Thomas Harvey Wheeler of Coldwater, MS. They made their home in Decatur where they owned and operated Wheeler Drug Store for 40 years. While living in Decatur she was a member of Decatur United Methodist Church. She had been a resident of Philadelphia since 2000 where she was a member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include her daughter, Roberta Byars and her husband, David of Philadelphia; son, Dr. William E. "Bill" Wheeler and his wife, Becky of Gaffney, SC; granddaughter, Carly Byars of Philadelphia; grandsons, Clay Byars and his wife, Jessica of Philadelphia, Andrew Wheeler and Matthew Wheeler, both of Gaffney, SC; sister, Roberta Day of Atlanta, GA and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Thomas Harvey Wheeler.
