KEITH HALL Mr. Humphreys, 86, of Philadelphia, died Saturday, November 21, 2009 at Neshoba County General Hospital in Philadelphia. He was an outstanding track and football athlete at Meridian High School. He joined the U.S. Navy October 1, 1941 and served on a destroyer in the Pacific theatre during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946. After the war, Mr. Humphreys began his professional career as a member of the International Association of Bridge, Structural Ornamental and Reinforcing Ironworkers Union Local #469 in which he served for 55 years in major construction projects throughout Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his father, William Cleveland Humphreys and mother, Vesper Elizabeth Humphreys of Meridian and granddaughter, Kelley Elizabeth Humphreys, RN, who died in an automobile accident in 2006. Survivors include his wife, Alta Kate Humphreys; sons, Leland Ray Humphreys of Greenville and Michael Earl Humphreys of Shreveport, LA; grandsons, Michael Shawn Humphreys of Portland, Oregon and Dr. Michael Chandler Humphreys of Hattiesburg; and great-grandson, Bradford Scott Humphreys of Hattiesburg. Pallbearers are Elliott Burnside, Edsel Burnside, Mark Burnside, James Lewis, Aaron Stokes, Jason Elliott, Melton Savell, Milton Savell, John Savell, and Jimmy Nowell.
