WAYNE CRENSHAW Layton Bassett, age 81, of The Villages, FL, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 20, 2017. He was born in Philadelphia, MS, on November 6, 1935. Layton retired from the US Navy as a Master Chief after serving a distinguished 30 year career, 26 years as a Navy Seal, finishing at the Naval Coastal Systems Command in Panama City, FL. He is survived by his wife, Vickie Lee Bassett, of the The Villages, FL; son, James Edward Bassett and his wife, Debbie of Falls City, NE; daughters, Kimberly Ann Warner of Middleburg, FL, and Beverly Bentley and her husband, The Reverend Mike Bentley of Collins, MS; stepson, Michael Pankey and his wife, Mia of Lynn Haven, FL; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Thomas Bassett and Hattie Dale Bassett; sons, Layton Beall Bassett, Jr., and John Rezon Bassett; and great-grandchild, Charliegh Denyel Bassett.
