MCCLAIN-HAYS FUNERAL HOME AND ON SATURDAY AT REMUSBAPTIST CHURCH FOR 30 MINUTESPRIOR TO SERVICEINTERMENT: REMUS BAPTIST CHURCH CEMETERYOFFICIATING: REV. DON COOKREV. EDDIE PILGRIM Imogene Cremeen Evans passed peacefully in her sleep, April 5, 2017, at John C. Stennis Memorial Hospital, DeKalb, MS.  Imogene was born October 28, 1930.  She was the oldest of four girls.  She always said she was a Mom her entire life.  Growing up the oldest in a family of four girls probably prepared her for her greatest role in life, which was a Mom to four Children.  She was the best.  As kids and even adults, we always knew we were her priority.  She provided a loving, Christian home with lots of guidance and possibilities to prepare us for our Life’s journey.  She instilled the values of integrity, hard work and dedication.  Getting a good education was something she felt strong about.  She instilled in her Children and others, The “You can do Anything” mentality.  She was an excellent cook.  Her everyday meals were always “Sunday Meal Caliber”. They were “Special” (and plentiful).  She took pride in preparing these meals, but was, for sure, the last to sit at the table, always making sure everyone had what they needed. If you did not respect Imogene, you did not know her.  Every task/job she performed, she did it 110%.  That included her life as a poultry farmer, a cattle farmer, and as a sole family provider once she was a Widow.  She took pride in her life.  What seemed to her as a routine day was, by all accounts, a tireless effort to grow the best chicken and work a big garden while caring for her cows, cutting her grass, cooking, canning vegetables and quilting, not to mention staying up late at night to sew clothes for her children and even clothes for their dolls.  She never knew it, or even thought about it, but she did it every day and loved it.  She was such a hard worker.  “True Grit” and its synonyms, fortitude, courage, backbone, determination and spunk, speak of her character.  She was an Animal lover, or maybe best described as an Animal “Spoiler”.  She never let a stray go hungry. She left fresh water out every night for those unfortunate animals passing thru her yard with no home. When told she had to retire from cattle farming she shed some tears when saying goodbye to some of her favorites.  She was a reserved and a very Smart Lady.  She never wanted the spotlight, even when it was warranted.  She wanted others to have that role.  She really did only see the beauty in a person.  She was funny, very funny, but she never knew that either, at times, looking surprised when others would burst out laughing over a comment made by her that reflected a sensible thought or situation.  If you did not love Imogene, you had not crossed paths.  That is why she is going to be missed so very much by her children;  Johnny (Gayle) Evans of Edinburg, James Evans of Brandon, Dianne Evans of Baraga, MI, and Carolyn Hegman (Will) of the Remus Community; sisters, Vergie (Hiland) Shelby of Carthage and Loree Creath of San Jose, CA; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and the many people whose lives she touched.  She knew she was going to be met in Heaven by all of those before her; Carmel, her husband; her sister, Frances Hill, and her precious Mom and Dad, Ruby and Roy Cremeen; and her constant companion of 17 years, her cat Lucy. It was the Greatest Honor and Privilege.  You may be gone from Earth, but you will never be far Away.
