JIM SAVELL Mrs. Sarah Kirkland, 82, of Harperville, MS, died Saturday, January 14, 2017, at her residence. She was a native of the Cleveland community in Kemper County and graduated high school at Cleveland. She attended East Mississippi Community College, Livingston University, Blue Mountain College, where she received her B.S. Degree, University of Mississippi, University of Southern Mississippi, where she received her Master’s and Specialist Degrees. Sarah taught at Hickory Flat, Scott Central, Horn Lake and Leake County Schools where she was Federal Programs Coordinator. She later substituted at Choctaw Tribal Schools and Scott County Schools until only recently. Mrs. Kirkland was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and numerous professional organizations. Survivors include her daughter, Polly Kirkland of Harperville; sisters, Appie Kirkland of Preston and Betty Beckham of House; brothers, Jimmy White of Harperville, John White of Columbia, SC, Henry White of Cleveland, MS and a host of nieces, nephews and their families. Mrs. Kirkland was preceded in death by her husband, Burney Ray Kirkland; parents, Jack and Audie Mae White; brothers, Jackie White and Rodney White. Pallbearers are Granville Freeman, Terry Judge, Truman Manning, Danny Allan, Bill Shaw and Greg Levert. Honorary pallbearers are Bobby Joe Green and Mack Robinson.
