Carroll, 84, of Preston, died Thursday, November 10, 2016, at his residence. He was a native of Clanton, AL, and lived most of his life in Kemper County. He earned a double master’s degree at MSU in Starkville, and earned his degree in ministry from Emory University in Atlanta, GA. Rev. Carroll was a retired United Methodist minister and had preached at various places throughout the east central part of Mississippi. He was instrumental in starting up the rural water systems and fire departments in Kemper County. He was a member of the Kemper County Cattlemen’s Association and the Kemper County Forestry Association. He was a dedicated Gideon before he became a minister and strongly supported them throughout his ministry. Rev. Carroll was a member of Lynville United Methodist Church in Kemper County. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Carolyn Carroll of Preston; son, Randall Howard Carroll of Tuscaloosa, AL; daughter, Suzanne Carroll Whitney (Sean) of Collinsville; granddaughters, who were the light of his life, Clare Whitney and Caitlin Whitney; sister, Dorothy McConnell (Chester) of Spanish Fort, AL; brother, Herbert Carroll (Betty) of Plantersville, MS; two nieces; and two nephews. Rev. Carroll was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Louis Carroll; parents, Earnest and Myrtle Carroll; brother, Fred Carroll; and one nephew. Pallbearers will be Bill Wilkins, Jr., Wendall Cotton, Billy Fulton, Danny Temple, Herbert Boyles, Steve Moore, Tommy Redus, David Whittington and Jerry Kinard.
