MITCHELL MCDONALDGENE MARTIN (BROTHER-IN-LAW) Ms. Moore, 63, of Butler, AL, died Monday, July 4, 2016, at Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian. She was a native of Kemper County and resident of Butler, AL, for the past 41 years. Ms. Moore committed her life to her family first and then to the betterment and education to the children of Choctaw County, AL. For her relentless efforts in seeking the best education and opportunities for children she was honored by the State of Alabama with the following resolution: RECOGNIZING GLENDA SUE MOORE FOR OUTSTANDING PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENT BY Senator Marc Keahey WHEREAS, highest commendations and congratulations are herein proudly presented to Glenda Sue Moore for outstanding professional achievement on the occasion of her retirement as Superintendant of Education of the Choctaw County School System after 30 years of distinguished service in education and WHEREAS, in addition to her most recent position, she has served as Principal at Southern Choctaw Elementary and Middle Schools, as an Alabama Southern Community College Adjunct Instructor, and as a teacher in the Choctaw County School System; and WHEREAS, she has received many accolades including the 2013 UWA Lifetime Golden Key Alumni Award, Choctaw County School Board Recognition, selection as Citizen of the Year by the Choctaw County Chamber of Commerce, selection as Alabama Community Education Association Central Region Principal of the Year, Retired Educators of Choctaw County Appreciation Award, Choctaw County Teacher of the Year, and Choctaw County Civiette of the Year; and WHEREAS, her professional endeavors include serving as a Certified Alabama Capital Planning Coordinator and Alabama School Facility Assessor; presenting and facilitating Stephen Covey’s “The Leader in Me” and “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People”; serving as a Corporate Coach U Superintendent Coach Trainer; organizing and facilitating workshops on educational topics; and chairing leadership meetings in the system and district; and WHEREAS, she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in English and History, a minor in Business Education, and a Master’s Degree in English at Livingston University, where she served as Valedictorian and received the Ralph Lyon Scholastic Award for her 4.0 average; she received Administrative Leadership Certification at The University of Alabama and certification to become a Draftsman at John C. Stennis Vocational School; her professional accomplishments include graduating from the Alabama Renaissance Technology Academy for School Leaders, and receiving additional training in Alabama School Finance, Alabama Education Law, and Alabama Curriculum and Instructional Leadership Programs; and WHEREAS, she holds many organizational memberships and serves on a number of advisory councils; as a breast cancer survivor, she speaks to groups at churches and organizational meetings on Breast Cancer Awareness; an accomplished writer, she submits a monthly article for the local paper, The Choctaw Sun, entitled “The Superintendent’s Corner,” and her poems have been published in The Bridge; additionally, she has served as a public relations person the Choctaw County School System; and WHEREAS, through the years, Glenda Sue Moore has earned immense respect for her tireless dedication and exceptional abilities, and has positively impacted countless lives with her plethora of contributions; her ingenuity and hard work are a source of admiration to the entire State of Alabama, and she is truly deserving of special recognition; now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That Glenda Sue Moore is highly honored and commended, and this resolution is presented to her in deepest admiration and appreciation, along with sincere best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors. She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Colvin (George) from Macon, MS; granddaughters, Marion Elizabeth Colvin and Abigail Augusta Colvin; brother, Rex McDonald (Laura) from Denham Springs, LA; sisters, Sherry Martin (Gene) from Monroe, LA, Sheila Alexander from Olive Branch, MS; and a host of nieces and nephews. Ms. Moore was preceded in death by parents, Harrison Cook McDonald and Edna Sanderson McDonald. In devotion to Ms. Moore’s passion for education, the family has established the Sue Moore Memorial Education Scholarship Fund to encourage and support the collegiate endeavors of future educators.
