DAN HOWARDRobert Lamar Fowler was born February 12th, 1929 in Montgomery County, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his parents Ava Box Fowler and Joe Tom Fowler; two brothers, Thomas Fowler and Loyce Fowler, two sisters, Patsy Smith and Mary Ruth Austin; and his two precious great- granddaughters, Aubrey Russell and Ava Russell.He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Estelle Sharp Fowler of Philadelphia; one daughter, Becky Fowler of Memphis, TN; two grandsons and families, Jason and Amber Russell and their children, Loren and Lawsen of Flat Rock, AL and Derek and Samantha Russell and their children, Logan and Sean Russell of Millington, TN; two nephews, Charles Austin of Kilmichael and Darrell Pogue of Starkville; and two nieces, Betty Beecroft of Olive Branch and Kelly Simpson of CA.Mr. Fowler began his 45 year career with Wells Lamont in Eupora in 1948. He quickly moved up to Supervisor, Assistant manager and finally Manager in 1962. Mr. Fowler served as President of the Eupora Jaycees and was selected Outstanding Jaycee for the State of Mississippi. He also served as a Colonel to Governor Paul Johnson.In 1969, Mr. Fowler was promoted to Manager of the second largest Wells Lamont plant located in Brownsville, TN. While in Brownsville, he was named to the Who’s Who in America. He was active in the Brownsville Baptist Church, Rotary Club and the Tennessee Manufacturing Association. He was instrumental in the opening of the Wells Lamont Warehouse in Memphis, TN, during this time. In 1983, Wells Lamont closed the Brownsville facility and transferred him to their largest plant in Philadelphia where he remained General Manager until his retirement in 1992. During his tenure as Manager, the Philadelphia plant received its first number one plant rating. Lamar was active in the First Baptist Church, the B.A.L.L. Group where he served as President, Mississippi Manufacturer Association and Rotary Club plus worked on several State Boards. After he retired, Lamar became active in the Philadelphia Arts Council serving as President and was instrumental in getting Mississippi actor, Anthony Herrera, to perform several plays which has lead to all the wonderful plays and performances held by the Arts Council today.Pallbearers were Fred Crenshaw, Mike Ramsey, Billy Sharp, Larry Robinson, Dennis Dontrich and Tom Wallace Cox.
