CHRIS GULLY Mary Pearl Clark Burnett passed into glory on March 16, 2016, at Dogwood Plantation Assisted Living of New Albany, MS. Her family mourns the loss of her presence among us and rejoices in the 104 years we have been enriched by her spirit. Born in the Lynville community of Kemper County in 1912, Mrs. Burnett was the sixth child in a family of eight. She came to faith in Christ as a teenager at a tent revival at Bluff Springs Baptist Church. In the 1930’s she served with a WPA agency teaching homemaking skills and arts and crafts to other young women. In 1936, she married the love of her life, Byron Burnett, also of Kemper County. They were married for 69 years. She and Byron were members of and active in Lynville Methodist Church holding a number of different offices over the years. One of her favorite ways to serve was providing and arranging fresh flowers from her garden for the church sanctuary. Mrs. Burnett had a love for the outdoors and all of God’s creation from an early age. Spring was always her favorite season – planting and watching the miracle of new birth. She was an excellent homemaker with many and varied skills from sewing and all types of needlework to cooking and baking. She always enjoyed sharing the “fruit of her hands” whether it was fresh vegetables or flowers from her garden or a meal at her table. She is survived by her son, Byron (Jo) Burnett of Missouri City, TX, her daughter, Lynda (Danny) Temple of New Albany, MS, two granddaughters, Laurin (Denis) Nolan of Cypress, TX, and Danielle (Drake) Hatfield of Simpsonville, KY, and four great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband, Byron Burnett.Pallbearers were: Jerry Harris, Virgil Clark, Roy Peden, Tommy Luke, Jason Sharp and Albert Gully. The family wishes to gratefully acknowledge the loving care of friends and staff at Dogwood Plantation as well as Gentiva Hospice. Memorials may be sent to Lynville UMC, 84 Kellis Store Rd., Preston, MS, 39354 or French Camp Academy, 1 Fine Place, French Camp, MS 39745.
