Korean conflict combat veteran Perry Thrasher was being treated there and was ordered to remove a small Confederate Battle Flag from his room. Being a proud Southern man and having the will of a warrior, Mr. Thrasher put up quite a fuss. He was finally forced to remove his flag. His story aired on the local news. That is when the West Tennessee and North Mississippi members of the SCV Mechanized Cavalry went into action, assisted by our Mechanized Cavalry brothers worldwide. Funds were quickly raised to purchase Mr. Thrasher a life membership in the Louisville, MS camp of Sons of Confederate Veterans. There were enough donations to also purchase Mr. Thrasher a life membership in the Mississippi Division of the SCV. Mr. Thrasher was also awarded lifetime associate membership in Bell's Partisans Camp 1821 of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, Inc.
